Burned Book Mask 3 by raena-nayrue Burned Book Mask 3 by raena-nayrue
This mask is FOR SALE! www.etsy.com/listing/125951493…
another burned book, a short story from the Cicada anthology of 2004

Edit:
Wow!! I had no idea this would be so popular! I'm blown away by this wave, guys! Thank you all so very much!
Because a lot of people have been asking, this is how I made the mask:
For this mask, I used a premade mask form from a hobby shop, but for most of the masks, I use plaster of paris bandages on my own face, getting as close to the shape as I can, then wait for it to dry. I then cut the edges and eyes the way I'd like them to look and give it a thin layer of paper mache or modelling paste to smooth it out. I then glue the quotes on the way that I'd like them to look and use a candle to burn the edges and the rims of the eyes. Then I tilt the mask a bit to burn the edges of quotes that aren't entirely glued down and put some smoke streaks across the face. For this one, I added a bit more charcoal to make it dirtier. =)

I pasted the pages over a pre-made mask form, or I made a form of my own face with plaster bandages called Rigid Wrap.

It's probably shaped round a mask, stuck onto it from the looks of the inside, and then some of it was burnt.

I have a question about the mask. Did you mean for the words Silly-looking, years old, and names to be on the front of the mask?

This one was just an example I was making for my own practice, so I didn't really intend any of the quotes that are showing, haha. =) Just kinda happened that way.

It is letters behind which we hide...

I cannot say whether this was the idea you were aiming for or if there was an idea to begin with but I'm loving it none the less!

Thank you very much! I tend to hide my face behind a book when I'm in public, so these masks are kind of personal in that way.

Heh, you have no idea to which degree I can relate to that. I'm glad my assumption wasn't too far off... and once more... these masks (and the idea behind them!) are awesomeness incarnate!

It personally reminds me of the movie The Fall, if you've ever seen it. The little girl briefly wears a newspaper mask. (And if you haven't seen it, I entirely recommend it!!)

That's what it makes me think of. Like in this future how our human race doesn't appreciate good books. Yep.
